u think people in the 70s weren’t like omg all my friends have walkmans i need to get one?? every generation does this. it’s human nature. the only difference now is that the ratio of avg wage to cost of living was a shit ton closer back then.

i think that statement is WHY the post exists, though. like yeah it’s human nature to do this - but the hyper-presence of advertising and ease of buying shit from the internet exacerbates an existing problem, and they target young people especially it’s not “because they’re gen z”, but gen z is disproportionately affected
