Why do people act just stupid when it comes to things. No one is saying the organisers were good leftist socialists. Theyre the neoliberal bullshitters. But if you have been to these rallies the people coming to these and talking are regular progressives. Should we judge every rally by their organisers all the time?
The organizers are kinda seedy and also dislike pro-Palestine protestors, but at this point the movement is bigger than the organizers. In a world where blocking traffic a block over from the route of the protest is considered a form of civil disobedience, it’s also to cover their own asses from the court jockey in charge
When the organizers are literally saying that they disagree on one of the most basic methods of protesting, yeah, i think it’s pretty reasonable to critique them. I’m all for progressive leaders speaking if that’s what they choose to do, but to do so in a way that encourages actual action and not pissing in the wind talking about farmers markets and brunches and whatever the fuck else the little “quirky” signs had to say
and before you insert that contrapoints quote - i DO think there is a limit to purity testing. a candidate like mamdani, for instance, is a net good for leftists movements in the US and distancing from him would hurt any sort of future socialist movement (this is just an example, i know it isn’t related to no kings).
I dont get this hate for signs and considering things doing nothing. Like newsflash man, by that logic none of the protests you attended did nothing as well. None of the Palestine shit mattered, I rallied to keep ICE out of NC that shit didnt play either and the governor signed the bill regardless. And the thing about disobedience, yeah man people are scared as well. When theyre locking people up for whatever they want people who have families and shit to lose will be scared to come out.
